Grand idea, a couple real good hits on it with some significant damage and there won't be enough people to keep it afloat.

They did some pre-sea trials on the original design up in one of the Great Lakes, oneof my co-workers was part of the system design team. Redundancy is the key to keeping the computer network on line with a reduced crew.

yep, redundant computers but only the one hull.

Well if this system works well it will be the wave of the future, CVN 2000 will be different that our days on carriers.

Looking back to the USS Stark when they got hit by the missile and the fire on board was difficult to put out since aluminum doesn't need O2 to burn it gave the fire crews a very rough time. Had to learn a hard lesson in structures and damage control for example.

But you do have to admit that those little figs could take a hell of a pounding and still come home.

I just worry that fewer people means smaller efforts for DC and firefighting. Call me old school, it fits.

I'm mixed with that thought: Yes being old school is what we were taught and knew no difference. But on the other hand with newer technology things have gotten better with work and tweaking.

What I worry about is the main frame and keeping it secure from sabotage from any type of source.
