What do you do when you see a stray dog in your neighborhood? Are you always in too much of a hurry, or do you check it out?

Sometimes I'm in too much of a hurry, but most of the time I stop. I think I've returned three or four dogs this year.

I got another one today. I turned off of our street at about 7:30am and a lady was taking a little morning stroll in the opposite direction. After I passed her I saw a dog running manically (zig zagging, head down) about half a block away from her, but he obviously had her targetted. He was kind of a mangy looking German Shephard or a mixed breed. It did not look like a good scene... so I whipped a U-turn and went after him, getting to him right about when he made it to the lady.

Anyhow, turns out he was actually a pretty well behaved dog, just funky looking. He was following the lady though, and she was a little stressed about the whole thing. FORTUNATELY, he had tags, so I threw him in the 4Runner and took 'Kenya' home. Right as I got there, the owner was pulling out to look for him. The owner was HOT by the way.. ... and only a couple blocks away...

Anyhow, if you love your dogs... GET TAGS DAMMIT!!!... preferably with a home address and phone number... because some people will stop and pick up strays.

Even if you're one of those folks who doesn't want to get a license, Petsmart and whatnot have little machines where you can make your own for a couple bucks. Do it.

I tried to pick up a dog last night, pomeranian or something. No tags, and kept running away when we got near it.

Tried animal control, but they were closed.

We have picked up a couple of dogs. My wife picked up two strays on her way to work, opened the door and they jumped right end. No tags. The animal control guy told here letting them in the car wasn't a good idea. Some become very aggressive, and don't let you back in your own car.

None of my dogs have tags on right now though. My bad.

I sometimes do but have become more reluctant. There was a little dog on Business 80 between the El Camino and Arden offramps. I pulled over and the dog went across all four lanes of traffic. Somehow I got to the median without getting hit, leaned down, made all the kissy sounds etc. The dog looked at me and waited until the 18 wheeler was coming to dart out. He was flatter than a pancake even before the last axle went over him. Felt really bad that day. I could see the look on the driver's face and he knew he couldn't swerve without taking me and a whole lot of other people out and just had to go right over him. So there I was in the middle of I-80 with a pile of steaming dog (yes just like the dude in the first blood movie) wondering if there would ever be a big enough break on the freeway for me to get back across without getting hit myself.

Yeah, some dogs are stray for a reason. If they have tags though, someone somewhere is probably desperate to get them back.

If you love your dog, you gotta get tags. You never know what's going to happen while you're away from the house.

That's the saddest friggin story I have ever heard.

My mutt has a microchip, 2 tags, and a collar with my phone number printed on it (a little obbsessive).

My dog trainer once told me not to put my dogs name on her tag, because if someone ever picked her up and started calling her by name then she would be more comfortabe with them and stuff.

What I do, well, you get some ground beef, mix it up with Draino, or Liquid Plumber, put it where they like to hang out in a plastic bag or something. Make sure don't touch it, it will burn your skin. Next day they're dead. Put em in a bag and in the bin, or you can bury them. I found out that muriatic acid (used in pools) works well too. I hate stray dogs. They keep me awake at night and carry germs. I say kill em all. I have a friend who shoots them. My father in law ties them to a tree and waits for the tide to come up. That'll teach that stray fucker for barking all night.
Oh btw, it works out well for rats and cats too.
