By caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, By the beans of Java do thoughts acquire speed, hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning, By caffeine alone do I set my mind in motion.

Here's a view from the very top room of Castle Himeji.

Also, some beers I tried (the poured one is the Yebisu). They were both excellent. I would buy them if I saw them at Bevmo.

At the Kyoto JR station (main bus & train station) there is a humongous underground mall with a FRICKIN' HUGE food court with football fields of good food. The prices are not a bargain by asian standards, but they are pretty decent by Kyoto standards (some of the rolls pictured would be $4.50-$6.00 in CA). I especially liked the 300 feet or so of sushi vendors. The food options throughout Kyoto blow most places away, you just have to check the price first.

I would tend to say the prices are just Japanese and not Asian because that would seriously leave one with a lot of let downs. When I lived in Japan if I was going to travel and enjoy the sights and sounds I'd leave price out and set out on a budget of nothing under a grand. I mean I was meager but I didn't starve or go without and had heeps of fun. My favorite beer was Ashahi Super Dry aka Kara Kuchi. It is said that part of the country the people are less serious than the Kanto people and thus have a lot of jokes and the way they talk is more relaxed as per the girl I was dating from Osaka.

Is that sushi as tasty as it looks?

The food is terrific. Just like Guinness is better in Ireland, and the Tex-Mex is not so great in Chengdu, Japanese food is much better in Japan.

Something real interesting here is the candy. In a lot of cases it's more of an art form here, but I guess that goes with everything as they pay a lot of attention to presentation of all dishes. We stopped at a few places in Kyoto where locals were making it on site.

Something I've always wondered is, is the sushi all raw there or do they have some cooked as well? I'm thinking cali roll or something along those lines.

It's the same. They caught that fooking Starchunks bug here too.

If it ain't raw it ain't sushi. As far as I can tell they'll serve the same sort of thing as here, but it's probably a good deal fresher.

They even serve a lot of beef raw here. My bro Cody, who met us on the weekend, ordered some kind of beef hand roll at this one place. I don't think he thought it was going to be raw, but it was. He looked at it and was... . He ate it though.

We had some whale sushi too. A bunch of raw slices from different parts of the body (skin, fin, etc). Almost completely fat though. The skin was incredibly chewy.

I think I'll have some photos of that.
